Get ready for fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy food right at our doorstep. The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) Farmers' Market is starting early this year on Wednesday, April 13, just in time for beautiful weather. The best part is the first 100 customers will receive a reusable bag for a sustainable shopping experience!
"VAPAHCS receives no money for this event, which keeps prices as low as possible so Veterans and employees can have the healthiest and lowest carbon-footprint options," said Dr. Wendy Thanassi, one of the organizers that helped bring the market to VA Palo Alto. "We have vendors that represent many people including Veteran- and disabled-owned businesses."
Whether you are picking up flowers for Mother's Day, enjoying music from VAPA arts, or entering to win a bag of produce, this year's market will feature plenty of themes as the holidays arrive. Look for announcements of themes and special giveaways at the Farmer's Market on VAPAHCS Facebook. The market will be open every Wednesday from 10 AM to 2 PM in front of building 100 on the VA Palo Alto campus, until November 16, 2011.
VAPAHCS Farmers' Market is in its 4th season, gaining its start in 2008 when Jerry Georgette, RN, MSN, and Dr. Thanassi worked to bring in the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association (PCFMA). With the full cooperation of the Director's Office, VA Canteen, VA Police, and the Facility Planning office, the market will continue to be an asset to employee and Veteran satisfaction.
