Through collaboration with multiple services, VAPAHCS nurse Jane Tran, Utilization Review Coordinator, developed and implemented the utilization review program at the Palo Alto Division. In recognition of her pioneering work, she was selected as a finalist for the NurseWeek Excellence Awards for 2010.
For more than a decade, NurseWeek has created a national program of awards ceremonies recognizing the extraordinary contributions nurses make to their patients, each other, the profession, and the community. Each regional Nursing Excellence award annually recognizes finalists representing facilities from throughout the region.
A nurse for more than 30 years, Ms. Tran has held many leadership positions and mentors other nurses in Northern California. She provides expert consultations, and is one of only two nurses in the hospital network who has obtained certification as an instructor for InterQual Criteria, a comprehensive assessment tool with guidelines for admission and continued stay at various levels of care.
Ms. Tran is the primary instructor who provides training to facility-wide staff with different backgrounds, and modifies her approach and teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each learner. Most importantly, she was often recognized by patients and families for "going the extra mile" to make sure their needs were met.
