VA Streamlines Homeless Veteran Resources at Menlo Park
Employee and Housing Resource Center Opens
VA Palo Alto Health Care System has always offered a variety of services to help Veterans find a place to live or to gain meaningful employment. Now all of these services have been streamlined into one place, the Employment and Housing Resource Center at the VA Menlo Park division. On January 30, VAPAHCS welcomes all Veterans enrolled in VA health care to check out this valuable resource from 12:30pm to 2pm.
The Employment and Housing Resource Room is an initiative of VAPAHCS' 5-Year Plan to End Veteran Homelessness, which is part of the broader National 5-Year Plan and VAPAHCS staff finding that most information was fragmented across different services offered. They sought to find an easier way to increase access of this information to Veterans.
"Not all Veterans have access to a case manager who can help them with resources, so this resource center is a great opportunity for Veterans to access information that may have been difficult for them before," said Elizabeth Richards, Housing Development Coordinator for the Domiciliary at VAPAHCS.
The new resource center offers free use of multiple computer stations, Internet and printers, along with staff assistance. Employment resources include job search assistance, current job postings, an employment resource guide and information about training programs. The center also offers housing resources such as emergency and transitional housing, tenant information and resources, rental and security deposit assistance, and low-income and affordable housing.
Visit the Employment and Housing Resource Center at the VA Menlo Park Division, 795 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA, in Building 324, Room E-112C. The resource center hours are Monday through Friday, from 10am to 3pm (closed from noon - 1pm). For more information, call (650) 493-5000, extension 23232.
