VAPAHCS Hosts Virtual Town Hall to Reach Veterans
VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) held its first Veterans Tele-Town Hall on March 30, hosting more than 800 people on a conference call. This new platform was key to converting in-person town halls to a virtual meeting while following state and federal guidelines for social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis.
Veterans were placed into a question queue and were mainly concerned about how the current crisis affected their on-going care. VAPAHCS Director Thomas Fitzgerald III assured Veterans that the health care system is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and ready to care for any Veterans who tested positive for the virus. Other topics included recently opened buildings and new technology, such as VAPAHCS becoming the first VA in the country to launch 5G wireless capabilities on its campus.
With local and federal agencies urging citizens to stay indoors, the tele-town hall event may be the start of a new trend for town hall meetings and many other events hosted by VAPAHCS.
