VA Palo Alto Health Care System’s (VAPAHCS) Dr. Ronit Katz has been named the new State Surgeon, California State Guard (CSG). In this role, Dr. Katz will provide primary medical advice to CSG Commanding General, Major General Jay M. Coggan.

Dr. Katz currently serves as the director of post-deployment health services and clinics for the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) at VAPAHCS which she will continue to serve. She is also a governing council delegate of the American Medical Association International Graduates Section and a past chair.

“We’re honored to have a medical professional of Dr. Katz’ caliber join our team,” said Major General Coggan. “We look forward to seeing what type of contributions in this role she will make to our growing CSG force."

As the CSG State Surgeon, Dr. Katz will provide policy and guidance to the Joint Medical Command. This includes the Army, Air, and Maritime CSG members. The Joint Medical Command will develop and update the overall medical response guidance and policy for medical forces in the Cal Guard during times of emergencies and natural disasters.

"I have been most fortunate in being able to accomplish a few things in my life, but nothing compares to the honor and privilege of helping our Veterans. They have sacrificed so much for us, and it is only fitting and proper that we give back by taking excellent care of them," said Dr. Katz.
