VA Palo Alto Launches New Lactation Pod
Director Fitzgerald cuts the ribbon of the new lactation pod located at the Palo Alto Division.
VA Palo Alto Health Care System is committed to supporting new mothers on its campus and understands the burden of being away from their baby during the nursing phase. VAPAHCS already provides lactation rooms throughout the health care system but went one step further with its first lactation pod.
The Pod is placed near elevators by Unit 2C on the second floor of the Palo Alto Division’s main hospital (Building 100) for quick access to mothers looking to find a personal space. Employees and Veterans will have access to the pod using a code available from the nearest nurse station or with the Mamava mobile app. They can even customize their in-pod experience by adjusting the lighting and airflow, and plugs are available using electric pumps or phone charging.
“I would like to express a big thank you to our Office of Facilities Planning and Development, Equal Employment Opportunity, Federal Women’s Program, Employee Wellness, and Engineering who all worked diligently to make this Pod possible,” said VAPAHCS Director Thomas J. Fitzgerald III, who recently cut the ribbon to officially commemorate the new Pod being open for business.
