VA Palo Alto Health Care System
Anesthesia Technicians are a vital component of the Anesthesiology Service's ability to provide high quality, safe anesthesia and monitoring for our patients. From their home base in the Anesthesia Workroom within the Operating Room Suite to each anesthetizing site in the hospital, the anesthesia technicians support anesthesia care providers by ensuring all equipment and supplies are functional, clean and readily available. Prior to each case, an anesthesia technician restocks supplies and pharmaceuticals, cleans and checks the anesthetizing station, and provides the specialized equipment required for individual cases.
Anesthesia Technicians troubleshoot equipment and are immediately available to support anesthesia personnel. Due to their expertise, anesthesia technicians are able to set up specialized equipment such as anesthesia machines and monitors, fiberoptic airway equipment, echo and ultrasound machines, intravenous and arterial infusion and/or monitoring systems, rapid infusors and warming devices. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals commonly used by anesthesia care providers enables the anesthesia technician to supply routine and urgent medications for the safe delivery of anesthesia care.
