Hand Hygiene Pledge

Clean hands save lives: An ongoing effort to reduce hospital-acquired infections

VAPAHCS Leadership signs the Hand Hygiene PledgeAt VA Palo Alto Health Care System, we pledge to clean our hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based gel or foam cleanser at key points throughout our shifts:

  • Upon entering a room and before touching a patient
  • Before performing a clean/aseptic procedure
  • After contact with a patient, whether bodily fluids soil my hands
  • Before putting on and after removing gloves
  • Before leaving any patient room, especially after touching patient surroundings.

We know clean hands prevent transmission of diseases. Thus, we will:

  • Keep our fingers and hands free of jewelry
  • Have short nails and no artificial fingernails

No excuses. No exceptions.
