Hand Hygiene Pledge
Clean hands save lives: An ongoing effort to reduce hospital-acquired infections
At VA Palo Alto Health Care System, we pledge to clean our hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based gel or foam cleanser at key points throughout our shifts:
- Upon entering a room and before touching a patient
- Before performing a clean/aseptic procedure
- After contact with a patient, whether bodily fluids soil my hands
- Before putting on and after removing gloves
- Before leaving any patient room, especially after touching patient surroundings.
We know clean hands prevent transmission of diseases. Thus, we will:
- Keep our fingers and hands free of jewelry
- Have short nails and no artificial fingernails
No excuses. No exceptions.
