Purchased Skilled Home Health Care Services - FAQs

What is Purchased Skilled Home Health Care Services?
Purchased Skilled Home Health Care Services provide intermittent or short-term skilled care at home for a particular clinical problem or issue, when the Veteran is limited in his or her ability to leave the home due to illness. The care is provided by a community-based home health agency with which we have an agreement.

What services are included?

  • Nursing care (such as wound care or catheter care)
  • Therapy visits for physical, occupational, or speech therapy
  • Patient education (about managing your medicine or illness)
  • A home safety evaluation
  • Social work support

How do I arrange for this care?
Talk with your provider (physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant). A VA provider requests skilled home health services when medically necessary and appropriate for enrolled Veterans.
