Dr. David J. Clark, Associate Chief of Staff for Research

Dr. David J. Clark, Associate Chief of Staff for Research David J. Clark, MD, PhD, graduated from Carleton College in 1985. He then attended Vanderbilt University where he received his MD and a PhD in pharmacology. In Seattle he completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Washington in 1996, followed by pain management training from 1996-1998.

Dr. Clark arrived at the VA Palo Alto in 1998 and has been a full-time staff physician since then. He oversees operation of the Pain Clinic, and supervises a research laboratory dedicated to better understanding pain and its treatments. The Palo Alto Pain Clinic uses medical, psychological and interventional approaches to control chronic pain.

Dr. Clark is active in several national and international pain research societies as well as local and national pain management committees. He is Professor of Anesthesia at Stanford University and the Associate Chief of Staff for Research at the VA Palo Alto.
