Dr. Steven K. Howard, Staff Physician & Co-Director of the Patient Simulation Center of Innovation

Steven K. Howard, MD Steven K. Howard, MD, was born and raised in Northern California. He obtained his undergraduate degree in pharmacology from University of California, Santa Barbara, his M.D. from the Chicago Medical School, and completed his residency training in anesthesiology at Stanford University in 1991.

Dr. Howard began his VA academic anesthesia career after completing his residency training. His clinical work at the VA is highlighted by his love for the Veteran population that he serves. He is the Co-Director of the Patient Simulation Center of Innovation at the VA Palo Alto – the VA's first simulation center.

His research interests include the study of fatigue in hospital personnel, and research and training applications of medical simulation. He spends his free time with his wife and daughter doing a myriad of activities. They enjoy travel, theater, concerts, sporting events, and working out together.
