Dr. Audrey Shafer, Staff Anesthesiologist

Audrey Shafer, MDAudrey Shafer, MD, is a staff anesthesiologist, VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and a Professor, Anesthesia, Stanford University School of Medicine/VAPAHCS. She received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University and her medical degree from Stanford.

After anesthesiology residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, she returned to Stanford for a research fellowship in clinical pharmacology. She directs the Medicine and the Muse Program at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics and co-directs the scholarly concentration in Biomedical Ethics and Medical Humanities.

Dr. Shafer teaches creative writing for medical students and has published a children's novel about PTSD in a Vietnam Veteran (The Mailbox, Random House), as well as a collection of poetry (Sleeptalker: Poems by a Doctor/Mother, Xlibris).
