VA Palo Alto Health Care System
WBRC Admission Information
Flight to Freedom is a bronze sculpture created by a former patient of the WBRC: Michael Naranjo.
While serving in Vietnam, Mr. Naranjo sustained major injuries which caused him to lose the use of his right hand and blinded him permanently in both eyes. He taught himself to proportion clay by touch. Mr. Naranjo stated “It does not matter what happens to you. Something happens to everyone. What you let it do to you is what is important.” The Flight to Freedom sculpture represents the Spirit of Excellence exhibited by our patients during their rehabilitation journey.
Application to the WBRC is made through the Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST) Coordinator.
