Recreation Therapy - Extended Care

Recreation Therapy Extended Care Team

Recreation/creative arts therapy in Extended Care uses a wide range of therapeutic interventions to improve physical, cognitive, social, emotional and leisure functioning on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting through meaningful therapeutic interventions to maintain or improve functional independence and quality of life.

Therapy is structured and goal-oriented, and is based on a holistic framework to provide an activity-based, patient-centered service that integrates function, quality, and meaning to one's life. The diversity of programming is based on the assessed needs of the individual Veteran, treatment team recommendations as well as the basic right to recreational activities and opportunities on the unit.
