Recreation Therapy

The ultimate goal of Recreation Therapy Service within the Western Blind Rehabilitation Center is to promote and support independence, safety, and optimal quality of life for our Veterans.

Evening and weekend community explorations provide an opportunity for the Veterans to practice newly learned skills, gain confidence, reclaim old interests, and explore and develop new interests. Leisure participation is critical to a healthy lifestyle. Recreation Therapy staff in WBRC is successful because the visually impaired and blind Veterans are provided both verbal and hands-on opportunities to explore a wide range of leisure activities, experiences and education from very physically demanding activities, such as adapted sports, to less physically demanding, such as practicing relaxation techniques.

Our hope is that through exposure to a variety of leisure opportunities, Veterans will find inspiration, interest, and motivation to continue their leisure interests when they return to their community.
